Hey guys

Postby Klickmania » Thu Jan 07, 2010 11:36 pm

Hey guys, I'm new here. My name is Spencer and I'm 20 years old. Originally from Chicago, now I'm in the upstate region of South Carolina. I went to WyoTech for Automotive Technology, Chassis Fab and their business program. I learned a lot and I would do it over again if I had the choice. Any way...Right now I'm workin full time at a place that sells used motorcycle parts. I get to take apart the bikes that we get at some auction in Atlanta and take pictures of all the parts. Not my dream job, but it's work, so I'm not complaining.

I'm currently building a 501 Pontiac Stroker that I want to put in a 1970 formula or trans am. Me and my brother also have a 1973 VW Bus that we're working on as well.

I'm really glad I stumbled onto this place and I hope I learn a lot!

That's cool Spencer. I know quite a few people that went there and loved it. Sure beats going to a college and getting a degree just to work a fast food place. A place that has nothing to do with what youstudied. Good luck with your career.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

I will say that I have mixed feelings about my education. I learned a LOT and I would probably do it over again, but the administration needs to pull their head outta their crotches and get their game together. All they care about is the money that's coming in and that's it. They really need to have an enrollment test just to weed out the kids that can't stick with it. We didn't have one, so there were a lot of idiots that were enrolled at the same time I was, which made it none too pleasant. Most of these kids had no idea that what you put into your education is what you got out of it, so they complained about every little thing that went wrong. The school gets a bad rap from these same people as well, so it really takes away from the people (like me) who actually learned something and can function in the work place. Their Blairsville, PA campus is in the worst location in the country as well. I would hate to live there again lol.

P.S. I am no longer working at the place that sells motorcycle parts. I got a job at Noone Customs in Piedmont, SC that starts on monday, Feb 1st. So i'm really excited about that. Here's his website if you care to check it out : http://www.noonecustoms.com/.

P.P.S. Here are some pictures of mine and my brother's cars. First, is our 73 VW bus that will be getting a 3 inch chop and about six inches taken out of her stance. We have plans for Chevy HHR tail lights and black bomber seats, and a big sunroof where the pop top used to be :)

Here's what she might look like when we're finished. Just threw that together one night.

Next up is my 501 Pontiac stroker that I was building for a class back up in Pennsylvania that I still have to finish. Got pictures of the 455 block that I'm using as the base. Got a 4.5" stroke Ohio forged crank, 6.8" forged eagle rods, and forged Ross pistons. Also went with a set of 72cc Edelbrock Aluminum heads. Here's that (sorry for the cell phone pictures, but it's all I had at the time). Wanting to put this in an early 70's Pontiac Formula or Trans Am.

Here's my Olds 403 that me and my brother are building for our '79 Trans Am as well. Cleaned up the cylinder walls with a 0.025" over bore and got some Keith Black Hypereutechtic pistons, edlebrock intake, ceramic coated Hooker 2.5" headers, etc etc.

You guys asked for pictures lol...Hope you guys like them. And if you couldn't tell by all this stuff....I am completely broke.

Nice projects Spencer. Yeah I just ignored the people who complained about things around me in school or just told them to keep their yap shut and do the work. The school I attended did not have any high performance offerings course wise besides the DCTC Auto Club that I used to be a member and former president of. Which was an after-class-time event. It was fun for me.

The only thing that frustrated me was I had absolutely no patience on the assmebly of a Eaton super-10 transmission top cover. I felt like welding the thing together permanently as a pile of melted shift-cover parts

Those main webs in that 455 block look a little on the skinny side, or is it just me? Never have seen the inside of a Pontiac before besides your picture. I am used to seeing thicker webs like in the Ford 460s and such. Some kool builds you and your brother have!

I think it might look a little on the lean side due to the fact that Pontiac never had a definite big or small block. They all shared the same external dimensions, so the Poncho 350, 400, and 455 are all the same size on the outside. The only thing that changed was the bore/stroke combo. So it's not quite a small block and not quite a big block. It's just kind of a medium sized block with a big bore/stroke. Pretty sure the webbing is around 0.75" thick, if not a hair bigger. The ARP main stud nuts are 3/4", and the caps/main webbing are about the same width anyway. :)

Also, the casting numbers tell me that it's a '73, and '75 and up blocks can't handle the same amount of horsepower/torque as the earlier ones, so I should be just fine with my build.
